Green net installation guide: shade net for terraces, balconies and parking in Vadodara's summer
By RD Pest Control ·
A green shade net can make a terrace, balcony or parking area far more usable in Vadodara's hot summer. Here is what to plan before you install one.
Vadodara summers are hot. Terraces become too hot to stand on in the afternoon, west-facing balconies bake, plants wilt and cars parked in the open get very hot inside. A green net, also called a shade net, is one of the simplest ways to make these spaces more comfortable.
RD Pest Control supplies and installs green nets for homes and commercial premises. This guide explains what a green net does, where it works well, and what to plan before installation.
What is a green net (shade net)?
A green net is a woven or knitted net that cuts down direct sunlight while still letting air pass through. It is stretched over a frame, along a structure or across an opening, creating a shaded area underneath or behind it.
Unlike a solid sheet roof, a shade net:
- Lets hot air escape instead of trapping it
- Allows some light through, which suits plants
- Is lighter and usually simpler to install
- Can often be removed or adjusted if needed
Where a green net helps most
Terraces
A shaded terrace becomes usable in the evening and early morning, and the floor heats up less. Many families use the space for sitting, drying clothes, or a small terrace garden.
Terrace gardens and plants
Plants that struggle in the peak summer sun often do better under shade. If you grow vegetables, flowers or potted plants on the terrace, a shade net can reduce scorching.
Balconies
West- and south-facing balconies in flats can get direct afternoon sun. A shade net across part of the opening can make the balcony and the room behind it more comfortable.
Parking areas
For bungalows, societies, shops and offices, a shade net over open parking can protect vehicles from direct sun.
Commercial spaces
Shop fronts, outdoor seating, nurseries, godown loading areas and factory compounds can also benefit from shade.
Things to plan before installation
1. How much shade you need
Shade nets come in different densities. A denser net gives more shade but also lets in less light. Think about what the space is for: sitting, plants or parking. We will suggest options when we see the site.
2. The structure
A shade net needs something firm to be tied or fixed to: an existing frame, pipes, railings, walls or a new support structure. The structure must be strong enough to handle wind. We look at what is already there and explain what is needed.
3. Wind and the monsoon
Vadodara gets strong winds before and during the monsoon. A loose or badly fixed net can flap, tear or pull on its supports. Proper tensioning and fixing matter. Some people choose to check or loosen nets ahead of heavy weather; we will advise what suits your installation.
4. Water drainage
If the net is horizontal, rain will pass through but can pool on sagging sections. A good slope and tension help.
5. Society rules
In apartment societies, terraces and outer walls are often common property. Check with your society office before booking.
6. Access and safety
Terrace edges and high balconies are risky. Installation at height should be done carefully with the right equipment. Please do not try to fix nets on high parapets yourself.
Green net vs bird net: are they the same?
No. A green net is for shade. A bird net is for keeping pigeons out. They are different products with different purposes. If you want to stop pigeons and also cut down sun, tell us both needs and we will explain what can be combined. See bird and pigeon net installation for the bird side.
Care tips
- Check the net and fixings before the monsoon and after storms
- Clear leaves and debris that collect on top
- Tighten loose ties early, before a small tear grows
- Keep sharp objects and hot items (such as a grill or diya) away from the net
Quick checklist
- Decide what the space is for: sitting, plants, parking or business use
- Take photos of the full area, including where the net could be fixed
- Measure roughly, or let us measure during the visit
- Check society permission if the area is shared
- Plan for wind and monsoon checks
Summary
A green shade net cuts down harsh summer sun while letting air through, making terraces, balconies, gardens and parking areas more usable in Vadodara's heat. Good planning of the structure, fixing and wind safety makes all the difference.
