Switch Board Dusting Treatment in Vadodara

Switch boards are warm, dark and connected to the whole house through conduit pipes, which makes them a favourite hiding place for cockroaches, ants and even termites. RD Pest Control treats them with a dry dust, never liquid, and plugs the conduit openings with cotton to slow pests moving through the wiring channels.

Understanding the problem

Why pests live in switch boards

Behind every switch plate there is a small box with a gap around the wires, and conduit pipes that run inside the walls from one point to the next. The warmth from wiring and the shelter of the wall make this a comfortable place for small cockroaches and ants. Termites can also use conduits as a hidden route through walls.

Normal treatment of the kitchen or bathroom does not reach inside these boxes. So even after a good cockroach treatment, a few may keep appearing from a switch board, and the problem slowly builds up again.

Why liquid must never be used

Spraying liquid insecticide into a switch board or socket is dangerous. Liquid and electricity do not mix, and it can cause short circuits, tripping or damage to wiring and switches. That is why this treatment uses a dry dust or powder only.

What the treatment includes

The technician opens the switch plates, applies a fine dust inside the box and around the conduit openings, then plugs the open ends of the conduits with cotton. The cotton reduces movement of pests between points and helps keep the dust in place. Plates are then fitted back.

This service is often added to cockroach control or termite control, but it can also be booked on its own.

Common signs to look for

  • Cockroaches crawling out from behind switch plates, especially in the kitchen
  • Lines of ants going into sockets or switch boards
  • Small droppings or dead insects at the bottom edge of a switch board
  • Mud traces or termite tubes near electrical points or along conduit lines
  • Cockroaches seen near the TV unit, set-top box, inverter or router
  • Pests returning soon after a regular kitchen treatment

Why it happens

  • Warm, sheltered boxes behind switch plates
  • Open conduit ends that connect rooms through the walls
  • Kitchen and pantry switch boards close to food, oil and moisture
  • Gaps between the switch plate and the wall
  • Cockroaches or ants moving in from neighbouring flats through shared walls
  • Termites using conduit pipes as a hidden route through masonry

Where it usually happens

  • Kitchen switch boards near the platform, chimney and fridge
  • Bedroom and hall switch boards, especially near beds and TV units
  • Electrical points behind the fridge, microwave and washing machine
  • Office switch boards near pantries and server or UPS corners
  • Shop counters, billing areas and display lighting points
  • Restaurant kitchens and food preparation areas

Our switch board dusting treatment process

What happens after you contact us.
  1. Step 1: Inspection of electrical points

The technician checks which switch boards and sockets show activity, and which are near kitchens, bathrooms or other pest hot spots.

  2. Step 2: Power safety

Before plates are opened, power to the area is switched off where needed. We will ask you to help with the main switch or MCB if required.

  3. Step 3: Opening the plates

Switch plates are unscrewed carefully so the inside of the box and the conduit openings can be reached.

  4. Step 4: Dust treatment

A fine dry dust is applied inside the box and around the conduit openings. No liquid is sprayed into any electrical point.

  5. Step 5: Cotton plugging

Open ends of the conduit pipes are plugged with cotton to reduce pest movement between points and help hold the dust in place.

  6. Step 6: Refitting and checking

Plates are fixed back and power is restored. We ask you to check that switches and sockets in the treated area work as before.

Before and after the service

What to do before we arrive

  • Tell us which switch boards you have seen pests in, with photos if possible
  • Keep access to the main switch or MCB board clear
  • Plan for power to be off in some areas for a short time; save work and shut down computers
  • Clear items blocking switch boards, such as furniture or appliances, where it is safe to move them
  • Tell us about any electrical faults, loose boards or recent wiring work
  • Let us know about infants, pets, asthma or allergies at home

What to expect afterwards

  • Do not open the switch plates or remove the cotton plugs yourself
  • You may see a few pests come out and die over the next days. This is expected
  • If any switch or socket does not work as before, switch off and tell us straight away
  • Do not spray household insecticide into switch boards at any time
  • Kitchen boards may need repeat dusting along with regular cockroach treatment

Safety information

Electrical safety comes first

We never spray liquid into switch boards, sockets or other electrical points. Only a dry dust is used. Where a board has to be opened, power to that area is switched off where needed before work starts, and switched back on after the plates are refitted.

If you know of loose wiring, sparking, burning smells or a recent electrical fault, tell us before the visit. In those cases the board should be checked by an electrician first, and we may skip that point.

People and pets

Keep children and pets away from open switch boards while the work is going on. The dust stays inside the box behind the plate, but children should not play with switch plates or pull at the cotton plugs. Please tell us about infants, asthma, allergies or pets in advance.

If anyone feels unwell after treatment, see a doctor. For any other doubts, contact us.

Switch Board Dusting Treatment across Vadodara

In Vadodara's humid monsoon, cockroaches and ants often move up from damp drains and into dry, warm spaces, and switch boards are one of the first places they settle. Many flats in the city have kitchens where the chimney, fridge and microwave points all sit close to the cooking area.

Older pol houses and bungalows may have older wiring and surface boards with more gaps, while newer societies usually have concealed conduits running through every room and sometimes between flats. Offices and shops in busy commercial areas also see cockroaches around pantry and billing counter boards. We adjust the work to the type of wiring and building we find.

Switch Board Dusting Treatment: common questions

Why don't you just spray inside the switch board?

Liquid in an electrical point can cause short circuits, tripping or damage to switches and wiring. That is why we only use a dry dust inside switch boards and never spray liquid into them.

Will the power need to be switched off?

Yes, where a board is opened, power to that area is switched off where needed. It is usually for a short time while those points are worked on, and it is restored once the plates are refitted.

Which pests does switch board dusting help with?

It is mainly for cockroaches, ants and termites that hide in or travel through switch boards and conduit pipes. It works best alongside treatment of the kitchen, bathrooms and other areas where they live.

What is the cotton plugging for?

Cotton is pushed into the open ends of conduit pipes inside the box. It reduces pests moving between electrical points through the walls and helps keep the dust where it is needed.

Is the dust safe for my family?

The dust is placed inside the box behind the switch plate, not on open surfaces. Children and pets should stay away while boards are open, and should not tamper with plates afterwards. Please tell us about infants, asthma or allergies before the visit.

Do I need to treat every switch board in the house?

Not always. The technician focuses on boards with activity and those near kitchens, bathrooms and other hot spots. In heavy cases, more boards may be included. You will know which ones before work starts.

Can this be done in an office or shop during working hours?

It can often be planned, but since power has to be switched off in parts of the premises, many offices and shops prefer early morning or after closing time. Discuss timings with the owner when you book.

How much does switch board dusting cost?

It depends on how many boards need treatment and whether it is added to another job. Tell us the number of rooms and boards on WhatsApp or call, and the owner will quote after understanding the job.
